Come and see the screening of the fascinating documentary ‘The Wings of the Sun’ (53 mins) which shows the construction and testing of the record breaking ‘Solar Impulse’ solar-powered aircraft.
Using pioneering spirit it was the first time in history zero-fuel flights were achieved between continents and through the night. This is in support of the current attempt by pilots André Borschberg and Bertrand Piccard to fly its successor, ‘Solar Impulse 2’ around the world. With a wingspan wider than a Boeing 747 and utilising over 17 000 solar cells, their goal is to help spread the message of sustainable design.
After the screening there will be a short video of the 2013 Across America flight and Q&A session about the Solar Impulse projects.
