A one-day symposium presented by the ACE CRC and IMAS to explore the science and governance of marine geoengineering.
The aim of this symposium is to bring together key scientists, researchers and government stakeholders to share research, build collaborative networks, and develop new research pathways around the following questions:
- What is the current scientific understanding of marine geoengineering proposals and what are the key directions for future research and development?
- How might marine geoengineering technologies be governed internationally to play a more central role in responding to anthropogenic climate change? How can international law respond to the risks and uncertainties of these proposals?
- What is the current state of marine geoengineering governance in Australia and the Southern Ocean? What developments are needed to better respond to the domestic and international governance challenges of marine geoengineering?
