Smelters to Smolt: Who’s keeping an eye on the Derwent?

The mountain might dominate our skyline, but the Derwent (which has also been called timtumili minanya, Raagapyarranne, and Nibbalin) is what gave Hobart life. We haven’t always returned the favour over the last few centuries, having used and abused the river in all sorts of ways. Fortunately the river has a strong advocate in the Derwent Estuary Program, which monitors the river’s water quality on a regular basis and advocates for our local water way. At this month’s Beer Aquatic, Derwent Estuary Program CEO Ursula Taylor will talk about will talk about the environmental condition of the Derwent, how it has changed over time, and about the role the DEP takes in the river’s stewardship.
