Science of Brewing

Beer competition including talks with two fermentation scientists and a brewer about the “Science of Brewing” on 24th August 2024 from 4-6pm at Saint John Craft Beer Bar in Launceston. This end time is indicative only and the attendees will be encouraged to stay and dine, and continue discussions. There will also be a unique opportunity for participating brewers to have their brews profiled using an electronic tongue and presented to the audience during the event. The electronic tongue has sensors to objectively measure taste (including bitterness, astringency, sourness, saltiness, umami, richness, and aftertastes of bitterness and astringency). Partners of the event include Saint John Craft Beer Bar, University of Tasmania, FermenTasmania, and the Australia Institute of Food Science & Technology (AIFST, Tasmanian Branch).
