River Weeds Survey

Our focus will be to survey Grey willow in the North West Bay Catchment. Grey willow, also known as seeding willow, is one of the most invasive willow species due to its ability to produce vast amounts of seed. Grey Willow has a limited distribution in Tasmania and is a priority weed due to its potential to rapidly invade areas. Kingborough Council have expressed concern about its potential expansion in the region (and catchment) (North West Bay Catchment Management and Action Plan 2020).

On the day we will cover:

An introduction to the NWBR Catchment Management and Action Plan.
How to log location data.
How to poison willows and the permit requirements.
A walk up the river from the Longley Park Area to map willows. (Please note the riverbank may be rocky, uneven and steep at points)
