Philosophy in the Pub is an opportunity for members of the community to meet and discuss, in some depth, a philosophical topic of their own choosing.
The event is hosted by philosophers as part of the University’s ongoing engagement with the broader Tasmanian community.
This month’s topic is ‘freedom’, encompassing both socio-political freedom and freedom of the will, along with their associated assumptions and implications. The discussion will explore metaphysical assumptions that either support or negate the possibility of free will, and the resulting consequences for moral responsibility. Additionally, the topic will include an examination of the distinction between positive and negative freedom, as well as freedom of speech within the broader context of socio-political liberty.
