Summary:
Join philosophers from the University of Tasmania as they examine the topic “The Value of Truth and Argument”
Philosophy in the Pub is an opportunity for members of the community to meet and discuss, in some depth, a philosophical topic of their own choosing.
The event is hosted by philosophers as part of the University’s ongoing engagement with the broader Tasmanian community. The topic to be examined this month is: “Equality, Hypocrisy, Hierarchy: Heartache or happiness?”.
They will be taking inspiration from the famous quote from George Orwell’s Animal Farm: “All animals are created equal, but some animals are more equal than others”. ‘Equality’ may be something that is presented as obtaining in many areas of contemporary life, from job opportunities to corporate or professional service provision to access to healthcare, education and justice. But is that really the case? And regardless of what is the case, what ought to be the case? And finally, what should our response to all this be?
