Part 1: 10 September
Join Alexandra Patton, the Young Tassie Scientists and the Tasmanian Student Science Communicators Network for an interactive workshop focused on the top tools for communicating science effectively to all ages.
YTS presenters will run mini‑workshops tailored to different age groups — from kindergarten learners to senior secondary students — followed by a short discussion.
Expect a mix of kinaesthetic activities, writing, and reading‑based engagement, showcasing how different disciplines land with different learners.
We will break for some food and chats in between!
Participants will jot down key communication strategies as they go, building a practical toolkit.
The session wraps with a group conversation on how these approaches translate beyond schools into stakeholder engagement and community‑facing science.
Part 2: 17 September
Caitlin Mcleod will deliver a workshop focused on the top tools for communicating science effectively.This hands-on session will explore practical, real-world techniques used by science communicators to engage audiences, simplify complex ideas, and create meaningful impact. Drawing on her experience across organisations like Questacon, Scitech, and Menzies Institute for Medical Research, Caitlin will guide participants through two interactive activities designed to build confidence and skills in science communication.
Caitlin is the Community Engagement Officer at the Menzies Institute for Medical Research. Previously, she was in the Questacon Science Circus and worked at Scitech in Perth, writing and presenting theatrical science shows and workshops across Australia. She has a Masters in Science Communication from the ANU and is a freelance science writer for Particle WA.
