Ignoring natural history could damn aquatic species

We hear a lot about the climate pressures on ocean life, but freshwater ecosystems are actually disproportionally threatened: there’s not much liquid freshwater in the first place, and society is eyeing off what’s left as its first line of defence against climate change. We’ve got a pretty good physical picture of the near future for our rivers, lakes and wetlands, but we know surprisingly little about how the species that live in them will respond to – or even survive – these changes.

Enjoy a beer as Dr Leon Barmuta tells you how re-focussing on the natural history of freshwaters – what species exist and how well they adapt – can ensure their health in the future.
