Join Dark Sky Tasmania for an engaging evening of discussion and discovery as we explore the importance of Tasmanian Dark Sky Places, and the role they can play in shaping our unique environment, culture, and communities.
Global levels of light pollution have been increasing by an average of 10% per year. Scientists estimate that 80% of the world’s population lives under light polluted skies, with a third of people no longer able to see the Milky Way. The loss of the night sky extends to Lutruwita / Tasmania: if light pollution continues at the current rate, within two generations Tasmanian children will grow up never having experienced a starry night sky. The increased use of artificial light at night is not only impairing our view of the universe, it is adversely impacting our health, environment, and wildlife.
Join Dark Sky Tasmania for an inspiring evening as they explore ways to preserve our island’s astronomical heritage and keep Lutruwita / Tasmania on the starry side of life.
