A rock-dust intervention to boost oceanic CO2 absorption

For their first event of the 2023 season Beer Aquatic is getting basic (or alkaline, for the chemistry nerds), and staging an intervention! Because even drastic greenhouse emission reductions probably won’t keep global warming below the 2oC Paris target, we will need to somehow actively remove carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. The ocean is already an important storage unit for CO2; can we ramp up the ocean’s absorption of our problem emissions? Dr Lennart Bach, a Climate Intervention scientist at the Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies, will explain how rock dust and battling protons could take the edge off future global warming. And unlike the impacts of greenhouse gas emissions, there’s no cost!
