A talk by Dr John Greenhill, Retired Senior Lecturer UTAS Physics.
In the nearly 30 years of its active lifeĀ at Mt Canopus the telescope has made significant contributions in several areas of astronomy. These include the discovery and measurement of the atmosphere of Pluto, identification of several milli-second X-ray pulsars and contributing to the discovery of about a dozen exo-planets. Perhaps the most significant achievement was the observatory’s contribution to the census of exoplanets which showed that there are more planets in our galaxy than there are stars.
