Young Tall Poppy Awards 2026

The Australian Institute of Policy & Science (AIPS) is thrilled to share a bold new chapter for the Young Tall Poppy Science Awards in 2026, one that reflects our growing ambition to celebrate and elevate Australia’s brightest scientific minds.

New Award Categories
This year, the program will expand to include two new national awards: First Nations Young Tall Poppy Award – honouring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander researchers who demonstrate excellence in scientific achievement and science communication, and who show leadership that inspires communities and strengthens Australia’s research landscape. Industry Young Tall Poppy Award – recognising outstanding industry‑based scientists who drive innovation and impact while excelling in science communication that brings research to life for broader society.

A New Way to CelebrateI
In 2026, the Young Tall Poppy Science Awards will culminate in a national conference. This event will be a vibrant hub for professional development, collaboration, and science communication, offering workshops, panels, state-based awards and networking opportunities designed to amplify impact and foster lasting connections.
The conference will close with a gala dinner and the Young Tall Poppy Science Award ceremony. During the evening, we’ll announce and honour the overall Young Tall Poppy of the Year from each state alongside the two new awards, recognising their outstanding contributions to research and public engagement.
