Australia’s most prestigious science awards—the Prime Minister’s Prizes for Science—are now open for nominations, celebrating outstanding achievements in scientific research, innovation, and science education.

With a total prize pool of up to $1.4 million, the program includes five major Science Prizes ranging from $50,000 to $250,000, including the Prime Minister’s Prize for Science and the Prime Minister’s Prize for Innovation. Winners receive prize money, a medallion, lapel pin, and certificate.

The awards also recognise excellence in science teaching and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander knowledge systems, aiming to highlight diverse contributions across Australia’s scientific landscape.

Eligible nominees must be Australian citizens or permanent residents and cannot self-nominate. The two-stage nomination process requires endorsement from supporters and referees, with final submissions due by 5:00pm AEDT on Thursday, 18 December 2025.
