Captive-bred juvenile spotted handfish have been released into the wild for the first time, with “handfish hotels” helping the critically endangered fish adapt to its new home in the River Derwent.
The 15 handfish bred at Seahorse World, in Tasmania’s north, were released into river on Tuesday, taken by boat to secret locations from the CSIRO on Hobart’s waterfront.
