Remnants of an ancient forest, preserved for thousands of years on a northern Tasmanian beach have excited social media users and inspired impromptu family trips.
On Monday, the Tasmanian Parks and Wildlife Service (PWS) wrote about the discovery of a “fossilised forest” at Badger Beach, Narawntapu National Park, with photos of what appeared to be a tree stump that had become one with the rocks.
The post said it was part of an ancient forest estimated to be from the last glacial period tens of thousands of years ago.
